PROVINCIAL ASB COMMITTEE
The Provincial ASB Committee was formed based on a recommendation from the review of
the ASB Program in 2005.
The Committee consists of:
·
5
ASB voting representatives, generally one from each region
·
Director or executive member of the AAMD&C
·
ASB Program Supervisor representing ARD, and
·
1
st
Vice President of AAAF as recording secretary
The purpose of the Provincial ASB Committee is to achieve a collective voice for ASBs
across Alberta that would facilitate and represent both the diversity and the commonalities
of ASBs. Through this collective voice, several additional objectives can be achieved such
as:
·
Improved communication between ASB Supervisor (ARD) and ASBs
·
Opportunity to represent ASBs at yearly ministerial meetings
·
Increase policy development capacity of provincial ASBs
·
Elevate significance of ASBs
·
Work cooperatively with AAAF and AAMD&C on agricultural issues
The Committee currently meets with the Minister twice per year to discuss the responses
to the resolutions passed at the Provincial ASB Conference. They also form part of the
Extension Committee formed by ARD to provide input to Assistant Deputy Minister on
agricultural issues and program policy.
EXTENSION COMMITTEE
The Extension Committee was formed in 2008 by Jason Krips, Assistant Deputy Minister,
Industry Development and Food Safety. It consists of the Provincial ASB Committee,
Executive of the AAAF, a representative from AAMD&C and ad-hoc members as required.
This team was formed so that the Assistant Deputy Minister could have a team that could
be brought together periodically to discuss municipal agricultural issues and program
policy for his Sector.
This Committee has met several times to provide input on the Key Contact Initiative and
the new ASB Grant Program.
This Committee does not meet regularly; it only meets by request.
