Forest Products & Markets - Forest Business

Alberta is a leader in the development and production of innovative forest products and is a supplier to a variety of markets around the globe. Lumber, pulp and newsprint, panelboard and secondary manufactured products from the province are shipped to markets in Canada, the United States, Europe and the Asia Pacific.
There are ongoing efforts to expand into new markets and a continued pursuit of the use of wood beyond residential construction. Alberta's Wood Species: The following links provide information on some of the market development work going on in the province. The department is a strong and active supporter of these initiatives:

BC Wood
BC Wood is a not-for-profit association that works with wood-based manufacturing companies in Western Canada to enhance their market opportunities in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Japan, South Korea and China. They work to connect Canadian companies with others in these countries to increase both the volume and value of Canadian-based products and exports.

Canada Wood
The objective of Canada Wood is to expand the offshore export opportunities of Canadian wood products in traditional and emerging markets by supporting industry associations in their efforts to work collaboratively overseas and by developing a Team Canada approach to market development.

Canadian Wood Council
The Canadian Wood Council (CWC) is the national association representing manufacturers of Canadian wood products used in construction. Alberta actively participates in CWC activities including market development in China and other global markets.

Wood WORKS! is a national campaign to increase the use of wood in commercial, industrial and institutional construction. Alberta Wood WORKS! is dedicated to servicing the prairie provinces, as well as the territories, in helping to facilitate the use of wood in commercial, institutional and industrial projects. They host a variety of events, workshops, seminars and case studies to highlight, distribute and disseminate information on wood use in construction.
