Tree cutting for personal use

Introduction 

Non-commercial timber permits allow Albertans to cut trees for personal use. These permits come in 2 types: 

• Local Timber Permits (LTP)
• Personal Use Forest Products Permits (PUFPP)

Each permit grants the holder legal authority to harvest timber in designated areas on Crown land.

Restrictions

In Alberta, tree cutting for personal use is not allowed in certain areas:

• outside of Forest Areas – see Tree cutting permits for details
• in Provincial Parks or Provincial Recreation Areas – except for designated Provincial Park areas
• in National Parks
